It so happened that we are still circling in the area of the Italian-Slovenian border. But this is reasonable from our side, because there are enough good white wines here. The Italian section of the "Yellow Road" originates on the Italian-Austrian border. If you look at the map, its route will pass by Bressanone, Bolzano, Trento ... Then the road will turn sharply towards Udine. Then she will make a narrow loop and return to Rovereto. And further along Lake Garda to Verona and Sirmione. And further to Piedmont and Emilia Romagna. Who closely follows the birth of the road, he can already imagine the beginning ...

“Yellow Road" could not pass by Verona in any way ... Well, in any way In the middle of the nineteen seventies, Ancilla - grandmother of Luisella Benedetti, bought two holdings with vineyards: La Ghidina and Cadellora. The first in Lugana di Sirmione, in the heart of the production area of one of the most elegant whites of Italy, and the second in Villafranca di Verona.

Today we are back in Piedmont from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, where we were visiting Cristian Beltrame. Winery Az. Agr. Abbona Marziano… Dogliani…

Back in 2014 we visited Cristian Beltrame, the owner of Tenuta Beltrame, an upscale winery in Friuli. The vineyards of Beltrame is close to Slovenian border, not far from station Cerviniano. Then already on the go, running from the wine-tasting hall to catch the train to Milan we tasted an amazingly delicious wine of amber color…

I have tried several times to hold this championship. But either the color was not very yellow, or the teams were not in shape, or the world was simply not ready for this unusual championship… and the games were put off for some indefinite time. But idea to hold – if not championship, then at least a road among the hills, lavender fields and vines hasn’t left me. The essence of this championship is not meeting with friends on the sportsground, but rather meeting friends on the terrace of a beautiful villa among vines, so that we could sit at a modestly served table (but with a glass of good wine) and enjoy spectacular southern sunset. As years were passing, organization of such championship seemed more difficult – we grow more pessimistic with age – and only pictures of wine, vines and villas seen online kept me interested in the idea.
