Developed over millennia, viticulture is deep-rooted in Italy’s northernmost winegrowing area, South Tyrol. As an important part of the South Tyrolean wine culture, the Nals Margreid Winery is keeping up tradition since 1932. The vineyards extend from Nals, a little town between Bozen and Meran (Merano), all the way to Margreid in the sunny, southern reaches of region, allowing to exploit a remarkable variety of terroirs and locations.

BARONESSE passito
BARONESSE passito

The Alto Adige Baron Salvadori Baronesse Passitois a stunning wine that offers profound aromatic intensity. The perfumed grape used here is Moscato Giallo, and the fruit was air-dried before being pressed, resulting in a more opulent taste profile. This dessert wine is heavily redolent of honey and candied fruit, with touches of brown sugar and maple syrup at the back...

The Baronesse Passito Baron Salvadori 2014 was recently awarded one of the most prestigious awards in the Italian wine business, the Oscar del Vino, which is jointly organized by the Bibenda Wine Guide and the FIS Sommelier Association. For the Nals Margreid Winery, this is a further step in successfully positioning itself as an eminent brand on the wine market.

What the film Oscars are for Hollywood, the wine Oscars are for Italy's wine industry. And this year, the Nals Margreid Winery has also become one of the prestigious winners, earning one of the coveted Oscars in the sweet wine category following several nominations in recent years. The Nals Margreid Winery is thus the only winery in South Tyrol to join the ranks of such prizewinners as Cá del Bosco, Tommasi and Arnaldo Caprai, Renzo Cottarella Antinori, e Jacopo Biondi Santi.

The questions of "YR" are answered by the Josef Seebacher, the winery Nals-Margreid

1 - You have 14 vineyards with fantastic views ... Which of the vineyards is the highest mountain? Well, which is the most beautiful, in your opinion?

Sirmian is a picturesque location on the south eastern slopes of Nalles. At an elevation of between 550 and 850 m above sea-level and a wonderful view of the whole Adige Valley, Sirmian is one of the region`s oldest wine-growing areas.

2 - By whose project was the building of your winery built? What other well-known projects has this architect made in Northern Italy?

Mr. Markus Scherer was the architect and planed the project. He also planned Manincor Estate, Hofstätter Winery and the Cantina Eisacktal.

3 - What is your favorite wine (red or white)? And why?

My favorite wine is the Pino Blanc Sirmian. Sirmian is a Monopol-Vinyard owned by Nals Margreid and the first vintage was bottled in 1971. Sirmian is the wine that expresses our philosophy at the best. Nals Margreid has focused on creating variety and terroir driven wines from South-Tyrol. Year by year, Sirmian is awarded with best notes by all the important wine critics.

Pinot Blanc Sirmian

7 - I would like to know about the wine preferences of the owner (s) of your vineyards. What kind of wine does he / they like?

An Opera. We have a wide roof-top terrace

10 - Your vineyards are located in fantastically beautiful places. Have you thought about building your own tourist way...

Unfortunately it is not possible at the winery Nals Margreid. Our vineyards are too distant to connect them by a tourist way. But You can walk from the winery to Sirmian, up the hill with a magnificent view.

11 - Which white wine producer (from Italy or another country) would you recommend for the Yellow Road?

We would recommend Molitor and Graci
